LASH FAQ

+ WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Eyelash extensions are individual fibres that are glued, one by one or in small fans, onto natural eyelashes to enhance the appearance with length and fullness.

+ WHAT ARE CLASSIC EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

A single eyelash extension is applied to a single natural lash to extend the length of the natural eyelash. It gives a very natural look, almost like you’ve applied mascara but better! ELLESENTIALS does not offer Classic Lash Services at this time. Please book Hybrid if you're looking for a natural set.

+ WHAT ARE HYBRID EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Hybrid combines both Classic & Volume methods to create a fuller look. It features 1:1 ratio of extensions on 50-60% of the natural lashes and lightweight 5-10D beautiful Volume fans on the remaining lashes. BEST FOR: clients with full & healthy natural lashes who want more fluff than classic lashes.

+ WHAT ARE VOLUME EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Volume is an advanced method of lashing where multiple thin, light and fanned out eyelash extensions are applied to a single natural lash to give your lashes more volume. The Signature Volume is our most popular set and it features lightweight 8-15D volume fans on each healthy natural lash. These are camera ready lashes — no filter will be needed! Best for: clients with not so many lashes and/or with gaps but want a full look. Perfect for clients who just love that soft fluff!

+ HOW LONG DOES THE EYELASH EXTENSION PROCESS TAKE?

Eyelash extensions are applied while you rest on a comfortable spa bed with 4" memory foam. Generally, services can take anywhere between 2-3 hours for fullset and 1-2 hours for a fill but times can vary depending upon the volume of your natural eyelash.

+ HOW LONG DO EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

Eyelash extensions can last you anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks with proper application & aftercare. Many factors affect the longevity of eyelash extensions including humidity, steam, rubbing, or sleeping on them. Touching them too much or applying oil-based products in/around the eye area will affect the longevity as well. To maintain a full look, fills are recommended every 2-3 weeks.

+ WHEN SHOULD YOU COME IN FOR FILLS?

We recommend that you come in for fills every 2-3 weeks to maintain a full look. The fill process can take anywhere between an hour to 90 minutes.

+ WILL MY EYELASHES FALL OUT? DO THEY HURT? WILL IT AFFECT MY NATURAL LASH GROWTH?

Eyelash extensions should not damage or make natural eyelashes fall out any faster than they would naturally. Most people do not notice their natural lashes falling out because they are not easily visible. Eyelash extensions are much larger than natural lashes, making them easier to see and thus more noticeable when they fall out. If extensions are applied incorrectly, natural lashes can become damaged and fall out. If applied correctly by a properly trained lash artist, eyelash extensions will follow the natural course of the hair’s growth cycle and lashes will fall out naturally.

Eyelash extensions, if applied properly, will not damage or prevent new lash growth. All eyelashes follow the hair growth cycle. The hair growth cycle consists of lashes growing in and falling out on a consistent basis. Clients should never pick their lashes or pull them out. In extreme cases, this habit can hinder hair growth.

Eyelash extensions will not hurt if applied correctly by a certified lash artist. If there is pain or discomfort, it is usually due to poor application or because the extensions were placed incorrectly.

BROW FAQ

+ WHY DO I HAVE TO SCHEDULE MY PMU APPOINTMENT BEFORE OR AFTER GETTING VACCINATED?

If you're planning to get the COVID-19 vaccine, please make sure to schedule your permanent makeup appointment a minimum of 2-weeks prior to vaccination or a minimum of 2-weeks after.

Once you are vaccinated, your immune system may be compromised and your skin may react differently and/or cause an allergic reaction during the procedure or after during healing.

+ WHAT IS MICROPIGMENTATION?

Micropigmentation also known as permanent makeup, is an innovative cosmetic procedure that allows both men and women to enhance features such as brows, lips, & more through the process of strategically depositing pigment into the upper layers of the skin.

+ DOES MICROPIGMENTATION HURT?

A topical anesthetic cream and gel are used during your procedure. Pain levels vary from person to person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable during the procedure. Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. Also, if you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long.

+ HOW LONG DOES MICROPIGMENTATION LAST?

Micropigmentation procedure outcomes are considered semi-permanent and will fade over time. They may need to be refreshed every year otherwise, they will fade after 1-3 years. Frequency of sessions depends on a number of factors including the colour pigment used (light colours fade faster), lifestyle (sun exposure), and if any form of exfoliations (AHA/BHA, etc) come into contact with the treated area.

If you have oily skin or want a longer-lasting result, Ombré Powder is the better option for you. PRO TIP: getting your brows professionally cleaned up every so often which will make the brow reappear darker and redefined.

Please note that final results cannot be guaranteed as each unique skin type will hold pigments differently and break down at different rates. You may book a touch up session 6-8 weeks after the initial appointment to fill in any areas that have faded after the healing process.

+ AM I GOOD CANDIDATE FOR MICROPIGMENTATION?

Laura does NOT perform the micropigmentation brow services on the following: under 18 years of age, diabetic, pregnant or breastfeeding, use of blood thinners, Accutane, Psoriasis, Eczema near the eyebrow area, viral infections/ diseases, Chemotherapy Treatment OR people with Epilepsy to ensure everyone's safety.

If you have extremely oily skin, microblading may not work as well for you. Ombré Powder will be more optimal. The constant production of oil will cause the hair strokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will appear more powdered than you would expect instead of crisp lines.

If you have little to no existing hair, your tattoo will appear more 2D than those clients who have more hair naturally. If you already have some hair to work with, your brows will appear more 3D.

If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment may fade sooner.

If you are iron deficient or anemic, your pigment may fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure.

+ WHAT IS OMBRÉ POWDER?

Ombré Powder Brows is a shading technique done using a cosmetic tattoo machine to give your brows a "filled in" makeup look. It resembles a brow tint that is fully customizable to be a semi-permanent natural, medium, or bold look.

This is a 2-step process that includes a touch-up that should be scheduled for 6-8 weeks after your initial procedure and it is suggested to do touch-ups every 6-12 months to maintain color. After 30 days, it is normal/common to have some spots where the pigment didn't retain, where at your touch-up we will reinforce the outline and fill in any missing/faded pigment.

+ HOW IS OMBRÉ POWDER DIFFERENT FROM MICROBLADING?

Ombré Powder Brows and Microbladed Brows are two different techniques. Unlike Ombré Powder, Microblading is done using a small blade to implant pigment beneath the outer layer of the skin to create the appearance of 3D hair-like strokes.

+ WHAT ARE COMBINATION BROWS?

Combination brows uses both microblading & shading techniques. Hair strokes are created at the front of the brows with ombré shading from the tail to create a more defined look.

+ WHAT FACTORS WILL AFFECT MY TATTOO?

Sun Exposure: The sun will soften the look of your tattoo. Once healed, sunblock SPF 50 should be applied daily to prevent brows from fading as quickly.

The regeneration of skin cells: The longer the regeneration takes, the longer the pigment holds.

The speed at which the skin absorbs the pigment: The slower the absorption, the longer the pigment will hold. This depends on the thickness level of the skin.

The choice of colour: The choice of lighter pigments will fade much quicker than dark pigments.

Bleeding during the procedure: Bleeding will reduce the pigment absorption as blood will push out the colours. Consuming alcohol and certain medications act as blood-thinners and should not be taken at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

+ HOW LONG IS THE BROW PROCEDURE? WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE?

It varies per clients but it takes about 4 hours on average. The first 2 hours includes consulation, mapping & shaping, and colour seletion. The last 2 hours are spent numbing, tattooing, cleaning up the brows, and taking final pictures/videos. The appointment may take MAX up to 5-hours whereas your included follow-up appointment will be up to 3 hours. If you have an ideal shape and colour in mind, bring or send few reference photos. You may fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so I can take into consideration the shape you desire.

If you regularly get your eyebrows shaped, waxed, threaded or tinted, please avoid doing so at least 1 week before your appointment. If there are any stray hairs that fall outside of our final shape, I can remove them.

If you plan to go on a vacation, it is recommended to plan your trip a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.

Clients must avoid any blood-thinning medication for a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment. This includes Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, and Ibuprofen.

Do not consume ANY alcohol for at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one-year before considering this procedure.

It is highly recommended that you avoid the sun and tanning for 30 days before and after your procedure. If you show up to your appointment with a new tan or sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

+ DO I PICK MY OWN SHAPE OR HOW DO WE DECIDE ON SHAPE & COLOUR?

For the shape, we follow the clients facial structure and natural hair flow. We also ask for pictures of how the client normally shapes their brows so we can adjust the shape accordingly to get it as close to what the client requests.

For the colour, we base it off of the clients natural brow hair colour. Custom pigment mixes are created for each client in order to achieve clients requests.

+ WHAT WILL MY BROWS LOOK LIKE AFTER THE PROCEDURE?

Your brows will appear much darker for the first 3-5 days. This will gradually lighten during the healing process. Redness and swelling may also occur.

+ WHAT WILL BE THE END RESULT?

Before the procedure, we will analyze your natural hair colours and match a pigment accordingly to ensure it blends well with your existing eyebrow and hair colour. The end result pigment stays true to color and will only lighten over time. Your eyebrow tattoo will eventually look softer and have more of a “powdered” look. To keep the lines “crisp”, a touch up appointment is suggested every 6-8 months.

Results vary with each client. If you are planning a chemical peel, laser treatment or other medical procedures, please inform the technician that you have had a cosmetic tattoo.

+ WHEN IS THE TOUCH-UP? HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME BACK?

Brow Micropigmentation is a 2-step process that includes a touch-up that should be scheduled for 6-8 weeks after your initial procedure and it is suggested to do touch-ups every 6-12 months to maintain color. After 30 days, it is normal/common to have some spots where the pigment didn't retain, where at your touch-up we will reinforce the outline and fill in any missing/faded pigment.
